Makhachev stated at the UFC 330 press conference, "Welterweight is a more competitive division, I have more good opponents, that is why I want to fight more years because we have real contenders in this division." Islam Makhachev Dismisses Retirement Rumors
Despite prior speculation that UFC 330 might mark his retirement, Makhachev has firmly denied these claims. He expressed his continued enjoyment of being UFC champion and his intention to compete for many more years.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Makhachev clarified, "No, no, no. I told you I like to be UFC champion and we're still going. It's not about numbers, about age. It's about your health, how you feel. Not everybody can feel the same at 34. That's why I feel great. No injuries. I still enjoy the sport, you know. That's why we will fight again. You will see me many more times."
For the immediate future, Makhachev's focus is on his upcoming title defense against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330.
