George Jarvis's Strategic Comeback for Regian Eersel Rematch
George Jarvis intentionally avoided an immediate rematch with Regian Eersel. Instead, he dedicated a year to rebuilding his strength and skill. His path back to the title involved facing two fighters who had previously challenged Eersel.
Jarvis is set to challenge Regian “The Immortal” Eersel for the ONE Lightweight Muay Thai World Title on Friday, October 2. The bout headlines The Inner Circle 33, broadcasting from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Their initial encounter in August concluded with a first-round knockout loss for Jarvis. The 26-year-old then secured a decisive victory over Sinsamut “Aquaman” Klinmee, a fighter who had twice vied for Eersel's Muay Thai championship.
Following this, Jarvis knocked out Rungrawee “Legatron” Sitsongpeenong. Rungrawee had previously gone the full distance of five rounds with Eersel during a ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Title fight earlier this year.
“This is precisely what I aimed for. Facing Regian again right after he defeated me wouldn’t have been my choice, as I needed to rebuild both physically and mentally. I needed to test my evolving style,” Jarvis explained.
“Now, I feel ready. I’ve returned, decisively defeated Sinsamut, and knocked out an opponent who lasted five rounds with Regian.”
George Jarvis Identifies an Opening in Eersel’s Fighting Style
Eersel holds a record of 14-1 within the promotion and currently reigns over both the ONE lightweight Muay Thai and kickboxing divisions.
While Jarvis acknowledges Eersel's impressive career, he believes their contrasting fighting backgrounds will influence their second fight. Jarvis sees Eersel as fundamentally a kickboxer, rather than a traditional Muay Thai practitioner.
“I’m targeting Regian, but I respect him as a champion. In my assessment, he remains the top pound-for-pound fighter in ONE Championship. He has achieved what many can only dream of, holding multiple belts in kickboxing and Muay Thai. He’s faced defeat and returned, demonstrating his class,” Jarvis stated.
“His style is effective. He excels in kickboxing, possesses strong boxing skills, lands effective kicks, and is proficient in the clinch. However, many overlook that he is primarily a kickboxer, not a Muay Thai fighter in the traditional sense.”
