Serie A club Napoli is nearing a significant defensive reinforcement as they have made substantial progress in securing Chelsea's Benoit Badiashile. The French centre-back, who saw limited Premier League game time last season, is expected to join the Italian side.

After weeks of discussions between the two clubs, a crucial development has emerged. According to reports, a verbal agreement is in place for Badiashile's transfer. The proposed deal involves an initial loan move for the defender to Napoli, with an option to make the transfer permanent.

Napoli is reportedly set to pay Chelsea a loan fee in the region of £2.5 million, which could potentially increase to £3.4 million. The option to purchase Badiashile outright is set at £23 million.

While Chelsea's initial valuation for the defender was £30 million, they have reportedly offered Napoli a discount. The final approval for the deal now rests with Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis, particularly concerning an additional £1 million add-on requested by Chelsea. His go-ahead is considered the final hurdle for the transfer to be completed.
