Early years and family

Born on July 9, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois, Belal Muhammad is the son of Palestinian immigrants. His athletic inclinations emerged early, as he developed a keen interest in wrestling during his school years. This passion persisted into his time at the University of Illinois, where he not only honed his wrestling skills but also pursued studies in law. Ultimately, the allure of martial arts proved stronger than a legal career, drawing him towards the professional fighting arena.

The beginning of his MMA career

Muhammad launched his professional fighting career in 2012 under the Hoosier Fight Club banner, marking his debut with a decisive knockout victory over Justin Brock. Later that same year, he showcased his talent in Bellator, securing a unanimous decision win against Quinton McCortell. From 2013 to 2015, Muhammad built an impressive record, accumulating eight victories across HFC, Bellator, and Titan FC. His ascent culminated in April 2016 when he captured the Titan FC championship belt by defeating Steve Carl via technical knockout, a triumph that swiftly led to his signing with the UFC.

The road to the UFC: best fights and opponents

Belal Muhammad stepped into the UFC octagon for the first time in the summer of 2016 at UFC Fight Night 90 in Las Vegas on July 7th. Taking the fight on short notice as a replacement for the injured Nordin Taleb, he faced the seasoned Alan Jouban. The bout saw Jouban initiate with aggressive striking, while Muhammad countered with adept defense and well-timed strikes. The intensity escalated through the second and third rounds, with both fighters exchanging powerful blows at a relentless pace. Despite ultimately losing by unanimous decision to Jouban, both athletes were honored with the 'Fight of the Night' award for their compelling performance.
