Mario Gila: Inter Interest, Milan Choice Driven by Challenge

October 7, 2026Pablo Navarro1 мин

Spanish defender Mario Gila stated at the Trento Sports Festival that Inter Milan also pursued him this summer. However, he opted for a move to Milan, seeking greater personal satisfaction from helping the Rossoneri achieve success.

"Yes, Inter wanted me too. But helping Milan come back great would be a much better satisfaction than joining a team that is already winning."

Inter's transfer strategy focused on other defensive acquisitions. They secured Manuel Akanji permanently, brought back Benjamin Pavard after his loan to Marseille, recalled Aleksandar Stanković from Club Brugge, and signed John Stones on a free transfer. This explains why Inter prioritized different areas, despite considering Gila.

Gila’s preference for a challenge at Milan is understandable. The Rossoneri have not won the league since 2021/22, while Inter has secured two titles in that period. The last Milan Scudetto before that was in 2010/11. Therefore, a future league title won by the current Milan squad would likely be more historically significant for the club and its players.

Gila transferred to San Siro from Lazio for €30 million, signing a five-year deal worth €5.77 million annually. He has quickly established himself in Ruben Amorim's defense, appearing in six matches across all competitions this season.
