Yuan Pengjie Eyes Jonathan Di Bella After Kongthoranee Bout
Yuan Pengjie faces Kongthoranee Sor Sommai this Friday in the flyweight kickboxing co-main event of The Inner Circle 32. The fight, airing live from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium for Inner Circle members, offers a US$100,000 contract to the winner.
With a 40-4 professional record, the 23-year-old Chinese fighter has secured notable wins in ONE, including victories over WMC World Champion Lamnamoonlek Torfunfarm and Jaosuayai Mor Krungthepthonburi. Kongthoranee, a former three-time Rajadamnern Stadium Muay Thai World Champion, presents a significant challenge as he transitions rule sets after nearing title contention in ONE’s flyweight Muay Thai division.
Yuan has intensified his training, incorporating weight work, power exercises, and additional footwork. He acknowledges Kongthoranee's strengths but believes his own striking will be decisive.
"I feel my opponent has a strong physique. He is very tough and strong, with dangerous weapons like the spinning back fist and low kicks that I need to be cautious of," Yuan stated. "My strength lies in my punches. I believe I can achieve a knockout with my punches and that I excel at it."
Yuan has seen fellow fighters earn US$100,000 contracts. A decisive win against Kongthoranee would place him in contention for such an opportunity. Overcoming a seasoned competitor like Kongthoranee is seen as a crucial step.
Looking ahead, Yuan's ultimate goal is to face undisputed ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Champion Jonathan Di Bella. The Sitsongpeenong fighter has clearly articulated his aspirations.
"My aim is to win this match decisively and secure the contract. I want to win the gold belt. Getting the contract is the first step toward that title," Yuan said. "If I win this fight, I want to fight Di Bella. Di Bella is at the top, so I want to challenge him next."
