Jon Jones Criticizes Daniel Cormier's 'Deep Jealousy' Over Khabib Nurmagomedov's GOAT Status
UFC legends Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier continue to fuel their long-standing rivalry, even years after their last Octagon encounter. Their animosity has been reignited, particularly following recent comments from Cormier, who controversially named Khabib Nurmagomedov as the UFC's greatest fighter of all time (GOAT).
The public sparring between Jones and Cormier has recently intensified. This comes after an earlier exchange where Jones accused Cormier of admitting their feud was too lucrative to end, an accusation Cormier strongly denied in a YouTube video.
However, it's Cormier's latest assertion that Nurmagomedov surpasses Jones in the GOAT debate that has truly reignited the fire.
Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier Trade Barbs Over Khabib Nurmagomedov GOAT Claim
In a recent interview, Cormier expressed his reasoning for placing Nurmagomedov above Jones. He stated, "Jon Jones, for as good as he is, has one loss. Why? Because he made a mistake. Khabib dominated and never made a mistake. Never got himself disqualified…never made mistakes. I don’t know why more people share this opinion."
Jones, in response to Cormier's comments on Instagram, accused his former rival of harboring deep-seated envy. Jones retorted, "I started in the UFC so early that I didn’t even know what the rules were. The night I fought Matt was the first night I had ever even heard the term '12-to-6.' Literally, my entire career has been in the main event, fighting for a world title. My brother, Daniel Cormier, your jealousy runs so deep through your blood. I honestly pray that the good Lord heals you from your envy and that, one day, you won’t feel the need to do interviews like this. Until then, it’s flattering to see the passion you have when it comes to me."
Both Nurmagomedov and Cormier were inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2022. Jon Jones is widely expected to follow them into the Hall of Fame in the future, after his anticipated retirement from mixed martial arts in 2025.
