September 1, 2026Pablo Navarro1 мин

UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev demonstrated his compassionate side following his record-breaking victory at UFC 330. After defeating Ian Machado Garry in a dominant performance that also saw him surpass Anderson Silva's consecutive win record, Makhachev met with a devoted fan battling cancer.

Makhachev had previously surprised the fan by flying them out to witness the UFC 330 event. The two connected in person on Thursday, prior to the official pre-fight press conference. Following his championship win, Makhachev extended his support to the fan backstage, offering words of encouragement and a powerful reminder: "Never give up!"

This touching interaction, captured by Anatomy of a Fighter, highlights the positive impact athletes can have beyond the octagon. The fan, identified as Valentin, is returning home with his daughter, Alexis, to continue his treatment for a serious illness.

Makhachev's latest win solidifies his standing as a top contender in UFC history. While the fight against Garry was a significant achievement, discussions about his next opponent are already underway. Notably, UFC commentator Joe Rogan suggested a return to the lightweight division, a move that could add another interesting chapter to Makhachev's career. He had previously vacated the lightweight title after his win over Renato Moicano at UFC 311.

Makhachev originally claimed the welterweight title from Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 via unanimous decision. The MMA community extends its best wishes to Valentin in his ongoing fight against cancer.
