Daniel Cormier's Skepticism on Usman Nurmagomedov's UFC Dominance Claims
Daniel Cormier acknowledges the potential of undefeated fighter Usman Nurmagomedov but expresses disagreement with his manager, Ali Abdelaziz's, strong assertions about Nurmagomedov's ability to dominate the UFC lightweight division.
Nurmagomedov, currently an in-demand free agent, recently concluded his PFL contract by successfully defending his lightweight title. His team has reported significant interest from various promotions, and a decision about his future is imminent.
In the meantime, Ali Abdelaziz, who manages Nurmagomedov, has publicly stated that his fighter would easily defeat top UFC lightweights like Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway. Cormier addressed these claims on his YouTube channel, expressing his doubts.
"This dude might be a little bit out there," Cormier stated, referring to Abdelaziz. "I think Usman Nurmagomedov is special... I know he has championship-level experience... The UFC guys are just better."
"Easier said than done," Cormier continued. "I train with the guy, I really care about the guy but to go out there and be really far left about who those guys are, because I know who Max Holloway is, I know who Ilia Topuria is, I know who Paddy Pimblett is, I know who Charles Oliveira is, I know who they are as fighters. I know who they are. To think they would just be completely dominated and outclassed is just absolutely crazy, and I will tell Ali that to his face."
Max Holloway himself responded to Abdelaziz's assertion during a live stream, using strong language to suggest the manager lacks understanding of fighting.
Chael Sonnen, another respected figure in MMA, also voiced skepticism regarding Nurmagomedov's potential dominance against elite UFC lightweights in a recent YouTube video.
