Zoë Kravitz Revives the Controversial Kick Flare Jean

August 23, 2026Pablo Navarro2 мин

Zoë Kravitz has a well-established knack for selecting stylish bottoms. Her wardrobe staples include The Row's flowing Gala pants, Cou Cou Intimates bermudas, and Still Here's low-rise, no-waistband jeans, forming the core of her contemporary classic looks. Now engaged to partner Harry Styles, the actor and her fiancé share a similar affinity for relaxed, usually straight-leg, dark wash denim.

Back in New York ahead of Styles' extensive 30-night residency at Madison Square Garden, Kravitz has been exploring a denim style that has long been misunderstood – one that Styles might not typically incorporate into their coordinated couple's fashion. Specifically, she was seen in a pair of light-wash blue cropped jeans with a kick flare, worn ultra low on the waist.

Photographed while running errands on the Lower East Side, Kravitz paired her jeans with a classic white cropped t-shirt, The Row's Awar heeled suede ballerina pumps, and oversized Thistles Atlas sunglasses. She accessorized with a glossy black leather Saint Laurent Hortense hobo bag featuring a gold-tone Cassandre ring detail, and opted for her signature Jessica McCormack drop earrings and engagement ring. Her waist-length hair was styled in small braids, half-up, half-down.

The humble kick flare jean has, admittedly, garnered a somewhat negative reputation. It can appear overly retro and can be challenging to style without creating an unbalanced silhouette. However, with the current resurgence of '90s fashion, consider the cropped flare jean in the context of icons like Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Winona Ryder from that era. While brands like Isabel Marant have consistently offered this silhouette, contemporary versions are also available from Toteme, Frame, and Ralph Lauren. When paired with minimalist loafers or ballet flats, the exposed ankle space is rendered elegant. Kravitz's low-rise take on the style makes it feel particularly current. The kick flare jean is an intentional silhouette that fits perfectly into a versatile, season-spanning denim collection.

When Zoë Kravitz and Harry Styles officially confirmed their relationship, they did so in denim. For both of them, denim often forms the basis of their outfits, complemented by simple yet high-quality tees and knitwear, loafers, oversized sunglasses, and an iced coffee. (Many of these items are from The Row.) During the warmer months, they had previously swapped denim for matching sporty shorts.

Just a few days prior, the couple was seen arriving at JFK airport, with Styles in a suit and Kravitz in her reliable Gala pants.
