Moses Itauma Reflects on Brave but Ultimately Falling Short in IBF Title Fight Against Filip Hrgovic
Moses Itauma is in good spirits following a concerning post-fight exit after his loss to Filip Hrgovic.
Itauma challenged Filip Hrgovic for the vacant IBF heavyweight title. While Itauma showed promise early in the bout, he eventually tired in the later rounds. This allowed Hrgovic to secure a surprising comeback victory, stopping Itauma in the ninth round.
Although Hrgovic's come-from-behind win stunned the spectators at The O2 Arena, there was some apprehension regarding Itauma's condition afterward. Itauma was taken from the ring on a stretcher and hospitalized, though this was reportedly a precautionary measure, and the defeated fighter is maintaining a positive outlook.
In a video shared on the Tunnel Culture Instagram page, Itauma acknowledged his first professional defeat, stating that he gained valuable experience from the fight.
"Yesterday was not my night," Itauma said. "We aimed for greatness and fell short against a more experienced opponent. I congratulate Filip Hrgovic on his victory. While I didn't achieve my desired outcome, I believe I gained experience that will benefit me in future bouts.
"I want to express my gratitude to the fans, both in and outside the arena. Your support made the atmosphere more special and electrifying than I anticipated. It was a fantastic fight, and I thank Queensberry and DAZN for hosting the event."
Itauma entered his bout against Hrgovic with significant anticipation, and some believe his standing in the sport remains strong despite his unsuccessful title bid. If Itauma can improve his stamina and avoid fading in future fights, there is still a strong belief that he can capture a world championship.
