Preview Tom Aspinall Reveals His Reasons for Signing with Eddie Hearn

UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall has shed light on his recent decision to partner with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Talent Agency, a move that comes amidst Hearn’s well-publicized differences with Dana White.

Despite facing criticism after his last fight, the British champion remains focused on the UFC heavyweight division, awaiting the outcome of the upcoming Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane bout. During his time away from the octagon, Aspinall encountered significant backlash from fans and peers following the controversial conclusion to his title defense at UFC 321.

While sidelined, Aspinall noticed a shift in public perception and has redirected his focus towards personal career advancement, prioritizing his own interests over appeasing everyone. Aiming to maximize his earning potential in combat sports and expand his business ventures outside of fighting, Aspinall transitioned his representation from his father to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Talent Agency.

The timing of this partnership surprised many, given the ongoing public disagreements between Hearn and UFC President Dana White. Nevertheless, Aspinall affirmed that now is the opportune moment for such representation and clarified his reasons for choosing the renowned boxing promoter.

Aspinall explained that he had previously met with “just about every MMA representation person,” including managers and commercial advisors. He elaborated on his choice: “Something about Eddie and something about Frank and the whole team… sometimes when you look across from somebody and spend real time with them, you just get a good feeling from them. And those are definitely my kind of people.”

He emphasized an immediate connection, stating, “I just feel like instantly we’re on the same wavelength. Instantly, the trust was there… I felt like we all just clicked and it works.”

Having achieved championship status, Aspinall’s current focus has shifted from solely building a legacy to maximizing his financial earnings as he progresses through his career. He views Eddie Hearn as an ideal partner to guide his business decisions and help realize this goal.

Aspinall expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Very happy to be a part of Matchroom… This was just about making my team bigger, as far as media and commercial value… I wanted to widen that, to grow that, and I believe that Eddie and the guys at Matchroom are the guys to do it with.”

He further clarified Hearn’s role: “Eddie and Matchroom, they’re like commercial advisors for me… My dad is still my manager… But, if we need to tag Eddie in, we will tag him in.” Aspinall concluded by emphasizing his financial ambitions, contrasting himself with fighters who are simply content to fight for pay. “With me, I want to make as much money as I possibly can make. So, I’m exploring every option that I can do.”
