Conor McGregor's UFC Comeback Stalls Amid Frustration
Conor McGregor's highly anticipated return to the UFC octagon faces significant delays, leaving the Irish superstar increasingly frustrated with the promotion's apparent lack of urgency. Despite dedicating himself to an intensive training regimen, mirroring his early career commitment, 'The Notorious' finds his comeback plans repeatedly hitting roadblocks.
McGregor had initially expected to make his comeback against Michael Chandler at an upcoming event on June 14. He expressed strong belief that the UFC administration was keen on this matchup, describing it as an ideal fight. "It was McGregor versus Chandler. The story was built in," McGregor remarked, praising Chandler as an "electric" and formidable opponent against whom he envisioned a "dynamite" spectacle.
However, plans shifted dramatically. Michael Chandler is now slated to face Mauricio Ruffy, a younger fighter whose aggressive style has earned him comparisons to McGregor himself. While acknowledging Chandler vs. Ruffy as a compelling matchup, McGregor firmly believes he was the rightful opponent for the former Bellator lightweight champion.
The former two-division champion revealed that he has been receptive to numerous opponent offers from the UFC, accepting each one without hesitation. Yet, he states, "no contract came." This persistent negotiation impasse has left him in a state of professional "limbo," despite his eagerness to step back into the cage. McGregor confirmed his intention to compete at welterweight, a division where he feels his current physique is best suited.
Looking ahead, McGregor is now setting his sights on acquiring the BMF (Baddest Motherf***er) title. He even floated the possibility of facing Charles Oliveira for the belt. "I assume the vibes I'm getting... is the BMF... Maybe it's me and [Charles Oliveira] for the next one," he stated, emphasizing his unwavering motivation to "compete, to return. To show my work, show my level, show where I am at today to the world." McGregor, who describes himself as "a bad man with a good heart," sees the BMF title as a fitting reward for his commitment and a chance to solidify his legacy.
