Why Arsenal – not Milan, remain in the lead for Bayern’s Leon Goretzka
AC Milan, a prominent Serie A club, is actively working to finalize a transfer for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka. However, Arsenal currently appears to hold the dominant position in the competition to sign the German international.
As reported by Daniele Longo, the Rossoneri have identified Goretzka as their top priority target for the upcoming summer transfer window. Milan views this potential acquisition as an ambitious move designed to send a strong statement about the club's future ambitions.
It is widely confirmed that the midfielder will not be signing a new contract with Bayern. While Inter and Juventus have also made inquiries, Milan has maintained consistent communication with Goretzka's representatives. Given that Inter has already held two rounds of talks, Milan is fully aware of the fierce competition they face, which explains their aggressive pursuit over the past few weeks.
Despite existing strong relationships between Goretzka’s agents and figures such as Igli Tare, Arsenal remains the player's preferred destination. Although Goretzka appreciates AC Milan and the allure of Serie A, he has a strong inclination to play in the English Premier League.
Furthermore, a significant obstacle for the Rossoneri is their inability to match Goretzka's salary expectations, which are reportedly set at €7 million per season, in addition to a signing-on bonus and performance-based incentives. Arsenal is in a much better financial position to meet these demands, which continues to keep Milan at a disadvantage despite their sustained efforts to secure the player.
