Tottenham's Guglielmo Vicario: Player set for Juventus medical today

Juventus is reportedly on the verge of signing Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. This potential transfer could conclude Juventus's extensive search for a goalkeeper this summer. Initially, the Italian club had targeted Liverpool's Alisson Becker, and later appeared to have found their solution in Aston Villa's Emi Martínez. However, a fee agreement could not be reached between the clubs. Subsequently, Juventus turned their attention to Parma's Zion Suzuki.

The Japanese international seemed destined for Paris Saint-Germain, only for Aston Villa to re-emerge as a possible destination. While this situation could have potentially facilitated "Dibu" Martínez's departure from Birmingham, Juventus has now set its sights on Vicario, the former Empoli goalkeeper.

Vicario was anticipated to return to Italy, having received permission from Roberto De Zerbi over the summer. The Italian coach has been sufficiently impressed by Antonín Kinský's performances towards the end of last season and is prepared to proceed without Vicario.

Juventus is initially acquiring the 29-year-old Italian international on loan, with an option to make the move permanent next summer. Vicario still has two years remaining on his contract with Tottenham. He is expected to undergo a medical examination with Juventus later today.

Juventus may have found a safe solution by bringing Vicario back to Italy on loan. Without an obligation to buy him next year, they may be less concerned about his occasional inconsistent form. In turn, Vicario could experience less pressure and potentially have a more stable campaign back in his home country.

For Tottenham, it will be interesting to observe if their full commitment to Kinský pays off in their pursuit of a top-half Premier League finish. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Emi Martínez will finally end his annual transfer window saga by leaving Aston Villa this time.
