Newly appointed Milan head coach Ruben Amorim has personally expressed his desire to sign compatriots Gonçalo Ramos and Francisco Trincão for the club.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Amorim has the full backing of RedBird chief Gerry Cardinale. Cardinale has offered Amorim a three-year contract with an additional year option and, seemingly, significant control over summer player recruitment.

Markus Krösche, who was anticipated to join Milan as sporting director alongside Amorim, has unexpectedly withdrawn his agreement and will remain at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Francisco Trincão is a player Amorim is keen to reunite with at Milan, having previously worked together successfully at Sporting CP, a period marked by trophies.

Gonçalo Ramos, formerly of Benfica and now at Paris Saint-Germain, is also familiar to Amorim. Despite achieving significant club success in Paris, Ramos has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under Luis Enrique.

Given Milan’s offensive struggles and the anticipated departure of several forwards, there could be an opening for a striker like Ramos, who is reportedly valued by PSG at around €40 million. Ramos is nearing his 25th birthday.

However, to fund these potential acquisitions and strengthen the squad, Milan may need to consider selling players, with Rafa Leão still expected to be available on the market.

A Shadow of Doubt

The arrival of a new manager often brings optimism and anticipation for a positive future. However, Milan appears to be a club facing deeper issues rather than needing a quick fix. Krösche’s last-minute refusal to join does little to inspire confidence in the club’s prospects for long-term stability and success.

Amorim has demonstrated his capabilities in previous roles when there’s strong alignment with his vision from both players and club hierarchy. While Krösche was instrumental in bringing Amorim to Milan, his absence raises questions about the decision-making process moving forward. Modern football often sees managers operating within a framework set by a sporting director.

Currently, there seems to be a disconnect between Milan’s leadership and the coaching staff. This situation, as observed in many other clubs, rarely leads to sustained success and frequently results in disappointing outcomes.

The recent links to Gonçalo Ramos and Francisco Trincão further suggest that agent Jorge Mendes might be playing a significant role in club dealings. Considering these factors, the odds appear to be increasingly stacked against Milan’s favor.
