The undercard for the highly anticipated showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford is starting to take shape, with Turki Alalshikh teasing the inclusion of a potential heavyweight fight.
Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) and Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) are scheduled to compete for the undisputed super-middleweight championship on September 13th. This significant bout will headline a Ring Magazine event taking place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Promoting this major event is Turki Alalshikh, working in conjunction with UFC president Dana White. Their collaboration aims to solidify their recently formed promotional partnership.
To enhance the evening`s action, which is set to be streamed live on Netflix, Alalshikh has already begun planning the bouts that will feature on the undercard.
While the head of Saudi boxing intends to showcase various talents, particularly during the preliminary portion of the event, he is also focused on scheduling three competitive matchups for the main card.
According to Alalshikh, one of these main card fights could be a heavyweight encounter between Jared Anderson and Jarrell Miller. This pairing is seen by some as a contest to claim the `Big Baby` nickname.
“The main card will have four fights,” Alalshikh told Ring Magazine.
He further elaborated, “We will have Canelo-Crawford, the co-main event, and two other fights. One of the potential matchups is Jared versus Miller, if we can finalize it.”
Jarrell Miller, who has a history of testing positive for multiple performance-enhancing drugs, was recently scheduled to fight Fabio Wardley.
However, Miller withdrew from that planned bout for undisclosed reasons. His withdrawal has seemingly opened up the possibility for him to compete on the Canelo-Crawford card instead.
Meanwhile, Jared Anderson suffered a significant defeat last year, being stopped in the fifth round by Martin Bakole. This loss somewhat impacted the momentum he had built in his career.
The 25-year-old has since returned to the win column with a unanimous decision victory over Marios Kollias. Despite the win, he appeared vulnerable at times throughout their 10-round contest.
Regardless of their recent performances, it appears that a fight between Miller and Anderson could be nearing confirmation, potentially serving as an intriguing attraction for boxing fans.
