MMA fighter Tony Ferguson appears to be one of the few who can truly relate to the challenging experience Israel Adesanya underwent earlier this month.
The former two-time UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, was reportedly seen getting sick in a trash can after participating in a training session with the renowned fitness personality, former Navy Seal, and endurance athlete, David Goggins.
Tony Ferguson had his own intense encounter with Goggins, going through a `Hell Week` style program before his fight against Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296 in December 2023. While `El Cucuy` successfully completed the demanding ordeal designed to push participants to their limits, he, like Adesanya, also experienced vomiting during the process.
Ferguson Humourously Calls His Hell Week “Light Work”
Last week, Tony Ferguson posted a video on Instagram showing himself skipping in a boxing gym. During this workout, the former UFC interim lightweight champion spoke about Adesanya and Goggins training together and jokingly described his own prior `Hell Week` experience as effortless.
Speaking to someone off-camera, Ferguson remarked, “You see Goggins coaching Izzy? He has him puking, too.”
He added, “Oh yeah. It’s good man. I think every fighter should go through that… Maybe not a whole week. But damn, at least a session.”
Concluding with a typical flourish, he stated concerning his time training with Goggins, “By the way, that week with Chief Goggins, light-work, coach, light work.”
Tony Ferguson`s Career Status
Tony Ferguson is currently on a long losing streak and has departed from the UFC after a 13-year tenure. Following his exit from the premier promotion, he signed with the GFL league and was scheduled for a bout against Dillon Danis.
However, GFL`s initial events were canceled in April, leaving the planned fight between Ferguson and Danis in a state of uncertainty. While both fighters initially claimed the fight was still on, there has been no public update on when or where they might compete in the over a month since the cancellations.
