British heavyweight Tom Aspinall has found himself facing fan disapproval ever since a contentious conclusion to a UFC event last year. The challenging experience has compelled the 32-year-old fighter to cultivate a more unforgiving persona, embracing a ruthless approach.
Prior to this incident, Aspinall’s career trajectory was soaring. He was widely regarded as a potential generational talent in the heavyweight division, actively seeking a monumental bout against Jon Jones. However, this momentum abruptly shifted following his encounter with Ciryl Gane, which was controversially declared a no-contest due to an accidental eye poke.
The aftermath saw a significant backlash, with many fans and even other fighters labeling Aspinall a ‘quitter’ due to his perceived atypical reaction and inability to proceed after the illegal foul committed by Ciryl Gane. He stated, “Something that I’ve learned from this whole injury thing, the backlash that I’ve got and stuff like that, you’ve got to make as much money and be as ruthless as possible.
