Preview ‘Thank goodness’… UFC Fans Rejoice as Major Event Change Throws Doubt Over Unwanted Title Rematch

The third Noche UFC event will not be the first in this series to take place on Mexican soil as initially planned.

Following the first two Noche UFC events celebrating Mexican Independence Day in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena and the Sphere, the 2025 edition was scheduled for Guadalajara.

Initial concerns about the event clashing with the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford boxing match on September 13 were superseded by worries regarding whether the Arena Guadalajara would be completed in time for the Octagon`s arrival.

Ultimately, construction delays at the venue have necessitated a change of plans.

The promotion announced during Saturday’s UFC Vegas 107 event that Noche UFC will now be held in San Antonio and will no longer serve as the UFC 320 pay-per-view.

Many fans see a significant positive outcome from this alteration.

Fans Relieved as Noche UFC Change Casts Doubt Over Alexander Volkanovski vs Yair Rodriguez Rematch

Prior to the forced relocation announced at UFC Vegas 107, speculation about the September 13 pay-per-view had caused considerable fan discontent.

With limited options for a Mexican headliner, reports suggested the UFC was planning Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez 2 as the main event, potentially granting `El Pantera` an unexpected title rematch.

Having gone 1-1 since his dominant loss to the Australian in 2023, many fans and analysts widely considered Rodriguez undeserving of an immediate second title shot.

Given this sentiment, many are celebrating the news of Noche UFC being downgraded to a UFC Fight Night event, concluding that the Volkanovski vs. Rodriguez rematch is likely off the table.

Fan reactions online included:

“Thank goodness. That fight never made sense.”
“So no Yair, right? Right?”
“Now give us an actual good main event instead of Volk vs Yair.”
“Ok so no need for Volk vs Yair anymore, right?”
“Now can we please scrap this Volk vs Rodriguez 2?”
“Let’s not do Volk vs Yair now please.”
“Please scrap that bogus Yair rematch and we’re cooking.”

Other fans proposed alternative matchups for Rodriguez at the Noche UFC event, alongside renewed calls for an long-awaited title opportunity for undefeated contender Movsar Evloev against Volkanovski.

Suggestions included:

“They can put Yair vs Diego [Lopes] as main event now.”
“Lopes vs Yair incoming…”
“Yair or Jean Silva vs Lopes as the main event.”
“Fight night so can we get Diego vs Yair”
“Do the right thing and make this Yair vs Diego and give [Movsar] Evloev the title shot.”
“Now make Movsar vs Volk.”

Movsar Evloev Accepted Another Fight After UFC’s Title Shot Snub

Despite an impressive record, Evloev appears set to face yet another contender, seemingly having failed to boost his popularity with the UFC brass enough for a title shot.

The Russian fighter boasts a 9-0 record in the Octagon, with recent victories over notable opponents like Aljamain Sterling, Arnold Allen, and Diego Lopes. While such a win streak would typically guarantee a title shot, Evloev continues to be bypassed by Dana White.

The 31-year-old shared news of his latest title shot snub on social media, announcing that he has accepted a different fight offer for the UFC Abu Dhabi event on July 26.

Evloev wrote: “If you are a UFC fighter and believe you are the best in the world, then you have [to] fight every fight they throw at you, no risk no reward. See you guys in July, it’s ON. #UFCAbuDhabi”

According to sources, the bout Evloev has accepted is a five-round co-main event against UFC newcomer Aaron Pico.

It remains to be seen whether securing a 10th consecutive victory under the UFC banner will finally be enough for Evloev to earn his highly anticipated shot at the championship.
