The Professional Fighters League (PFL) marked its inaugural event in Pretoria, South Africa, at the SunBet Arena with a night filled with exciting MMA action. The South African crowd was treated to a full card of compelling fights and dominant performances.

In the highly anticipated PFL Africa bantamweight main event, Nkosi Ndebele of South Africa faced off against Italy’s Michele Clemente. The bout was a spirited contest, with both fighters exchanging hard-hitting strikes and sharp elbows in the early rounds. Clemente applied constant pressure, but Ndebele effectively countered his advances. Ultimately, the South African fighter secured a unanimous decision victory in what was hailed as an instant classic.

The heavyweight division delivered a dramatic clash between Senegal’s Abdoulaye Kane and South Africa’s Justin Clarke. Kane started aggressively, landing a powerful combination that visibly stunned Clarke. However, the hometown favorite showed resilience, fighting back fiercely. Clarke turned the tide with a decisive counter right hand, knocking Kane down and securing a first-round TKO victory.

Nigeria’s David Samuel made a strong start in the welterweight tournament, submitting Abdelrahman Mohammad in the first round. After dropping his opponent multiple times with precise boxing, Samuel transitioned to the mat and secured a submission, moving on to the next stage with minimal damage.

In another welterweight tournament bout, late replacement Rivaldo Pereira of Guinea-Bissau capitalized on his opportunity. Stepping in on short notice, Pereira stopped Kunle Lawal in the opening round with a body shot followed by effective ground-and-pound strikes. Samuel and Pereira are now scheduled to face each other in the semi-finals, promising a thrilling matchup between two dangerous finishers.

Angola’s Shido Boris Esperança displayed a near-perfect performance in his welterweight tournament bout against Emilios Dassi. After securing a takedown, Esperança quickly established dominant top position and finished the fight with a barrage of elbows and punches, earning a first-round TKO.

The welterweight tournament also saw Yabna “The Panther” N’Tchala start strong against Peace Nguphane. While N’Tchala landed heavy shots early, Nguphane shifted the momentum by employing takedowns and maintaining solid top control. His effective ground-and-pound secured him a unanimous decision win, much to the delight of the South African audience. Esperança and Nguphane are set to meet in the welterweight semi-finals.

In an all-Nigerian catchweight bout, Juliet Ukah and Jane Osigwe engaged in a back-and-forth striking battle. Ukah, a Police Corporal known as “Golden Bones,” controlled the center of the cage and landed cleaner, more consistent counters throughout the fight. Her measured approach and effective striking earned her a split decision victory.
