Preview Paulo Costa Targets Khamzat Chimaev After Heated Exchange with Azamat Murzakanov

Paulo Costa is set to make his return this weekend at UFC 327, competing in the co-main event. The Brazilian fighter will be making his light heavyweight debut against the undefeated contender Azamat Murzakanov, signifying a notable shift in his divisional weight class.

Leading up to the fight, Costa escalated tensions during the pre-fight press conference, launching verbal assaults and controversial statements at his opponent. In a heated tirade that quickly went viral across MMA communities, he referred to Murzakanov as “fat.”

“I hate these f***king Russians. This is the second one in a row that I’m gonna put on my record, and the third one maybe Chimaev. I want him next after beating this fat guy,” Paulo Costa stated at the UFC 327 press conference.

Costa’s previous bout was against Roman Kopylov, whom he defeated by unanimous decision. This victory helped him rebound from a two-fight losing streak, and the fighter is now eager to maintain that momentum.

With Kopylov being Russian and Murzakanov also hailing from Russia, Costa is now openly targeting a third Russian opponent: middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev. A potential fight between Costa and Chimaev, given their history, could lead to a major title bout.

UFC CEO Discusses Khamzat Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland Mega Title Fight

Khamzat Chimaev is currently slated to face former middleweight champion Sean Strickland. This fight is scheduled as the main event for UFC 328, taking place at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.

The anticipation for this bout is immense due to the long-standing animosity between the two fighters, which has extended beyond the usual pre-fight banter. In a recent interview, UFC CEO Dana White commented on the fight and the significant security considerations it presents.

“The amount of f**king security [and police] we’re gonna need in New Jersey for those two,” Dana White said during an Adin Ross stream.

The UFC has seen its share of intense grudge matches, with the iconic Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov confrontation being a prime example. Nevertheless, fans are looking forward to the trash-talking exchanges between Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev leading up to UFC 328.
