Preview Patchy Mix Enters Free Agency Following PFL Departure

Combat sports welcomes its most high-profile free agent yet: Patchy Mix.

The former Bellator bantamweight champion is now free to seek a new promotion after the PFL announced Tuesday a mutual agreement not to extend his contract, effectively releasing him.

PFL officials confirmed the decision in a statement: “Professional Fighters League and Patchy Mix have mutually agreed to not extend his contract,” the statement read. “We both decided this is the best course of action for PFL and him. Patchy is a fantastic fighter and we wish him well. PFL is excited to crown our next 135 pound champion in the PFL World Tournament.”

This announcement concludes a lengthy situation stemming from Mix`s complaints about inactivity. He was initially scheduled to fight Leandro Higo in November, but the bout was cancelled, leading Mix to request his release.

Since that time, Mix has publicly voiced his frustration regarding the promotional layoff. His most recent bout was in May 2024, a rematch victory against Magomed Magomedov.

That performance marked his seventh consecutive win, bringing his overall record to an impressive 20-1.

Unfortunately, Mix didn`t get the chance to build on that streak or defend his Bellator title again, with the extended layoff ultimately prompting his release request.

Now, it appears both parties have reached a mutual decision to part ways.

It`s highly probable that the UFC will express immediate interest. Mix is arguably the top bantamweight not currently signed to the promotion. He trains in Las Vegas, often working with current UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili, and has openly desired a move to the UFC roster for some time.

With his ties to PFL severed, it appears Mix may finally get that long-sought opportunity.
