Preview Oscar De La Hoya Teases Ryan Garcia’s Comeback

Oscar De La Hoya has indicated his interest in arranging a series of fights involving co-promotions, specifically mentioning a potential rematch between Ryan Garcia and Rolando Romero.

The two boxers recently faced each other in a fight earlier this month that wasn`t particularly thrilling. Despite this, ‘Rolly’ managed to knock Garcia down and ultimately secure a significant upset victory towards the end of the match.

The fight saw Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) dropped by a counter left hook in just the second round. The bout then suffered from a lack of consistent action from both fighters, leading to Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) being awarded a unanimous decision win.

Before this recent loss, a shadow had been cast over Garcia following his controversial bout with Devin Haney. In that fight, ‘King Ry’ knocked his opponent down three times and won by majority decision.

However, the result of the Haney fight was later overturned to a no-contest after it was revealed that Garcia had tested positive for ostarine, a substance considered performance-enhancing.

In response, the New York State Athletic Commission issued Garcia a one-year suspension. This means a version of the fighter, likely different from his previous aggressive style, is set to return relatively soon.

Unsurprisingly, questions were raised after his defeat to Romero, with many fans commenting on Garcia’s performance seeming more sluggish and less dynamic.

Despite the circumstances, his promoter, De La Hoya, appears eager for the 26-year-old to have an immediate rematch with ‘Rolly.’

The head of Golden Boy Promotions also informed Fight Hype that he is interested in collaborating more often with rival promotion Premier Boxing Champions. He cited a potential fight between Gilberto Ramirez and David Benavidez as another example of a possible cross-promotional event.

Regardless of who Garcia fights next, it seems his promoter has no current interest in pursuing a rematch with Devin Haney, despite their previous history and potential for a future clash.
