Orlando Wiet, a celebrated figure in both kickboxing and Muay Thai, and a pioneering mixed martial artist who made his mark at UFC 2 in 1994, has passed away at the age of 60.

Wiet, originally from Paramaribo, Suriname, and representing France in competition, passed away on Thursday. His coach, Milton Felter, confirmed the news. While his death was initially reported by Vechtsport, the specific cause has not been publicly disclosed. Social media posts from February indicated that Wiet had been hospitalized.

During his appearance at UFC 2, Wiet secured a victory over Robert Lucarelli via technical knockout, utilizing knees to the head. Later that evening, in a subsequent bout, he was defeated by Remco Pardoel, who delivered elbows from a ground position.
