Scottish striking phenom Nico Carrillo is set to move up to the featherweight division to challenge Muay Thai icon Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong. This highly anticipated bout is scheduled for April 5th at Lumpinee Stadium as part of a ONE Championship event, broadcasting live on Sky Sports.
Known as `The King of the North`, the Scotsman previously made significant waves in ONE Championship, achieving an impressive streak of four consecutive knockout wins against notable opponents.
However, his bid for the Interim Bantamweight title against Nabil Anane concluded dramatically with a defeat, as Anane secured three knockdowns to finish Carrillo within the distance.
Following this setback and after a few months, Carrillo has decided to transition to the featherweight division, where he will make his debut in this upcoming fight, live on Sky Sports.
This move signifies his ambition to challenge for the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai world championship, currently held by Thailand`s formidable Tawanchai PK Saenchai.
His first challenge in the featherweight division is exceptionally tough, as he faces Sitthichai, a renowned eight-time kickboxing and Muay Thai world champion widely regarded as one of the sport`s best pound-for-pound strikers for many years.
Sitthichai, currently ranked No. 4 in the ONE featherweight Muay Thai division, is notably the only fighter to have defeated Tawanchai in ONE Championship. Eager for a rematch and another shot at the world title, the Thai legend is highly motivated to secure a victory against Carrillo at ONE Fight Night 30.
The event on April 5th will also feature two other significant world title bouts.
British fighter Lyndon Knowles, a training partner of kickboxing star Jonathan Haggerty, will compete for the ONE Heavyweight Muay Thai world title against Ukraine`s Roman Kryklia.
Knowles enters ONE Championship for the first time as the reigning WBC Heavyweight Muay Thai world champion.
Additionally, Regian Eersel will defend his ONE Lightweight Kickboxing world championship against former champion Alexis Nicolas in an exciting trilogy fight, with their previous encounters standing at one win each.
