UFC superstar Ronda Rousey is getting a biopic about her life.

The former UFC women’s bantamweight champion was not just a pioneer for women’s MMA; she was a true trailblazer who competed in some of the biggest fights in history.

Transitioning to MMA from a judo background where she competed in the Olympics, Ronda Rousey absolutely dominated, finishing her first eleven opponents early in the first round using arm-bar submissions and strikes.

Of course, nothing lasts forever, and the undefeated Rousey experienced one of the most dramatic falls in UFC history. While at the pinnacle of the UFC world, she lost her title to Holly Holm via head kick knockout in 2015, and a year later, in her comeback fight against Amanda Nunes, she was stopped by TKO in less than a minute.

A decade after her title loss, Rousey recounted the behind-the-scenes story of her rise and fall in her memoirs My Fight/Your Fight and Our Fight.

Now, Rousey’s story will be told on Netflix.

Ronda Rousey Biopic to be Directed by Euphoria’s Augustine Frizzell

As confirmed by Deadline, in association with Netflix and produced by Chernin Entertainment, the upcoming biopic about Rousey will be directed by Augustine Frizzell (Euphoria).

Based on the former UFC champion’s memoirs, Rousey wrote the script for the film in seven days.

According to Deadline, Frizzell had read both of Rousey’s books by the time she received the call to direct the biopic. And yes, she is apparently a UFC fan.

Frizzell directed the pilot episode of the hit TV series Euphoria (2019). Frizzell has also directed films such as A24’s Never Goin’ Back (2018) and The Last Letter from Your Lover (2021).

Ronda Rousey Reacts to Her Life Story Becoming a Movie

A biopic focused on Rousey’s fighting career has been discussed since 2015, when Paramount held the rights.

10 years later, the untitled project about Rousey has a director, a great home at Netflix, one of the world`s largest streaming services, and a script written by Rousey herself.

Rousey commented on Frizzell being named the director of her biopic.

“Another step closer to making this dream a reality,” Rousey wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.
