Juventus winger Francisco Conceição is reportedly a transfer target for Liverpool, who are currently seeking a successor to Mohamed Salah ahead of the Egyptian’s anticipated summer departure. As speculation mounts linking the Portuguese international to Arne Slot’s squad, Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti offered his assessment of the left-footed attacker. His comments followed Conceição’s notable performance in Juve’s recent 2-0 victory against Genoa.
Speaking to Sky (via TMW), Spalletti acknowledged the comparison: “It’s a fair assessment. Francisco is young, still has much to learn, and must gain confidence in his ability to drift inside from the flank.”
Spalletti further outlined areas for Conceição’s development, suggesting improvements could elevate his game. “He shouldn’t show the anxiety evident when a defender is behind him. When he receives the ball wide and can turn to face the opponent, he becomes virtually unmarkable. In numerous instances, he generates multiple scoring opportunities. However, he needs to refine his decision-making and his awareness in one-on-one situations to identify passing options.”
The coach then praised Conceição, calling him “one of the best wingers I’ve ever coached.” He added, “While he sometimes takes things step-by-step, his overall winger play is exceptional. He needs to enhance his shooting accuracy. Salah, on the other hand, is relentlessly intense and fierce; he’s incredibly difficult to contain. He also delivered several pivotal passes today.”
It’s plausible that Spalletti’s glowing remarks are partly intended to boost the morale of the former Porto player. Conceição’s game still contains weaknesses and a lack of consistent performance. Addressing these aspects will be crucial if he is to succeed in a potential move to Liverpool.
