Preview Jack Catterall Admits To Feeling ‘Pressure’ Ahead Of Eubank Fight

Jack Catterall is well aware that facing Harlem Eubank – a name that inherently carries significant weight – requires a performance that makes a statement. Anything less could potentially see him fade from the spotlight in the boxing world.

Simply put, the magnitude of this upcoming fight, and the pressure it brings, has served as an added layer of motivation, keeping him intensely focused and determined.

To his credit, the 31-year-old has become a notable figure in the sport in recent years. However, a loss this Saturday, or even a performance below expectations, could easily dismantle that prominence.

Considering this, it`s hardly surprising that Catterall, who holds a record of 30-2 with 13 knockouts, feels a surge of adrenaline whenever the name `Eubank` is mentioned – perhaps even more so than for previous fights.

The two fighters are set to collide at the Manchester Arena later this week in a bout that represents a crucial turning point for both their careers.

While Eubank, with an undefeated record of 21-0 and 9 knockouts, is coming off a series of victories, it`s also fair to say that these wins have been secured against opposition below the elite level.

Catterall, in contrast, has been competing at or very close to the top tier of the sport for approximately three years.

His push towards world recognition, ignited by a controversial split decision loss to Josh Taylor, has been defined more by his slick movement and technical skill at 140lbs than by a series of devastating knockouts.

However, following a recent decision defeat to Arnold Barboza Jr, we might see a significantly different version of the talented southpaw as he steps up to the welterweight division.

Indeed, the announcement of this fight has clearly energized `El Gato`, not least because Harlem`s cousin, Chris Eubank Jr, recently secured a much-discussed victory over Conor Benn.

Adding to the atmosphere, Chris Eubank Sr is also expected to be ringside. Despite having the home advantage, Catterall understands the immense challenge and the feeling of having his back against the wall.

“I could have taken a 10-round international fight, boxing on an undercard somewhere,” he stated. “But at 31, that kind of fight does nothing for me, whereas this one [against Eubank] brings the pressure.”

“He`s an undefeated fighter who is hungry and is stepping up in class. He believes I`m the best British fighter at 140lbs (now moving up to 147lbs) and he`s coming to beat me.”

“That makes me think I absolutely have to perform now. I need to go out there and make a clear statement.”

“No disrespect to Harlem, but if his name were Harlem Smith, I probably wouldn`t be as interested.”

“The fact that he`s a Eubank, and his cousin just had a big win, means people know who he is.”

“And having Eubank Sr there – and me beating his nephew – should also attract more attention to the event, which is entirely beneficial for me.”
