Preview Gravina Resigns: Possible Candidates to Become Next FIGC President

Following a period of significant change for Italian football, particularly after recent disappointments, Gabriele Gravina has stepped down as president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). This departure comes amidst broader shifts within the national setup, with the Italian national team undergoing a major transformation.

The operational direction and future trajectory of Italian football, or Calcio, are profoundly influenced by its leadership. Gravina’s tenure was marked by notable challenges, leading to an immediate and urgent search for his successor.

Among the potential candidates to assume the FIGC presidency, Giovanni Malago is emerging as a strong frontrunner. Malago brings extensive experience in sports administration, having previously served with distinction as president of the Italian Olympic Committee.

Another name being considered for the top role is Giancarlo Abete, who previously held a close advisory role to Gravina within the federation, offering him intimate knowledge of its workings and challenges.

Intriguingly, Beppe Marotta, the current CEO of Inter Milan, is also on the list of prospective candidates. While securing his release from his existing contract might prove challenging, his deep footballing intellect and proven track record would be a significant asset to the federation.

Umberto Gandini, known for his tenures at both AS Roma and AC Milan, is also a prospective candidate. His extensive network and strong relationships with numerous clubs and key figures within the FIGC could prove crucial ahead of the elections scheduled for June 22nd.
