Robert Buskey, a former amateur mixed martial arts fighter, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the tragic death of his 5-year-old daughter, Charlotte. He now faces a 27-year prison sentence for the horrific crime.

Hailing from Schenectady, New York, 35-year-old Robert Buskey had a brief amateur MMA career with a 2-1 record, known for his powerful striking. He secured a Cage Wars vacant super heavyweight title and even had a first-round finish in a kickboxing bout. Despite this minor athletic success, he gained notoriety for the horrific act that led to his daughter’s death.

Reports indicate that Charlotte died from extreme thirst and starvation. Her 3-year-old brother was also a victim of severe neglect, discovered locked in a cage in a state of profound emaciation. During this period, Buskey was reportedly engrossed in drugs and video games, neglecting his children and failing to provide them with food, even though the home was well-stocked. Disturbingly, both children also tested positive for cocaine.

Charlotte was reportedly confined to a bedroom locked from the outside by Buskey. The room lacked a bed, forcing the child to seek comfort, often in an undersized playpen.

The Schenectady County District Attorney’s report described Charlotte’s condition as extremely emaciated, with her eyes sunken into her skull, a direct result of severe deprivation of food and water.

Following his guilty plea to second-degree murder, Robert Buskey received the maximum sentence permissible by law.
