Preview Decision Pending on Navarrete vs. Suarez Result After Controversial Stoppage

Reports indicate that a final ruling regarding **Emanuel Navarrete`s** technical decision win against **Charly Suarez** is expected on June 2.

The reigning WBO world super-featherweight champion retained his title last Saturday, but the outcome of the bout quickly came under intense review.

The fight was stopped in the eighth round because a cut above Navarrete`s left eyebrow, sustained in the sixth round, was judged too severe for him to continue fighting.

Referee **Edward Collantes** ruled that the injury resulted from an accidental clash of heads. This ruling meant the fight would go to the judges` scorecards for a technical decision.

Navarrete (**40-2-1, 32 KOs**) was ahead on all scorecards, securing the technical decision win. However, subsequent video replays suggested the cut was actually caused by a punch from Suarez (**18-0, 10 KOs**), not a headbutt.

Despite this, veteran official **Jack Reiss**, serving as the California State Athletic Commission`s (**CSAC**) video replay official, did not overrule or challenge Collantes` initial call at the time of the fight.

Consequently, Suarez and his corner formally appealed the result the following day, seeking to have the technical decision overturned and declared either a no-contest or, ideally for them, a TKO victory for Suarez.

Reports widely circulating state that the appeal submitted by the Filipino fighter will be reviewed at the next scheduled meeting of the CSAC on June 2.

In light of this, WBO president **Gustavo Olivieri** confirmed via social media that his organization will hold off on making any decision, such as mandating an immediate rematch, until the CSAC has concluded its review.

On platform X, Olivieri posted: “Since the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) possesses the legal authority and jurisdiction concerning the disputed bout, the WBO is obligated to wait for the official, final, and definitive ruling from the CSAC before taking any appropriate action.”
