Dave Allen, coming off a dramatic knockout victory over Johnny Fisher last month, is currently being linked to a potential fight against former world champion Joseph Parker. However, Allen has openly stated his doubts about his ability to defeat the New Zealander.
Allen, whose record stands at 24-7-2 with 19 knockouts, initially faced Fisher in Riyadh in December, losing a controversial split decision. This prompted immediate calls for a rematch.
Five weeks later, the two heavyweights met again. This time, the outcome was decisive, with Allen securing a conclusive fifth-round knockout win over “The Romford Bull.”
In the aftermath of this significant victory, the 33-year-old Allen signed a deal with Matchroom Boxing. His name has since been mentioned in connection with potentially lucrative fights against top names such as Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Allen candidly admitted he doesn`t believe he can overcome Parker. Despite this, he maintained that he would readily accept the fight if the financial terms were right and would give it his absolute best effort.
“Do I think I can beat Joseph Parker? To be completely honest, not really,” Allen stated. “I possess a puncher`s chance against anyone, but am I a better boxer than Joseph Parker? No. Could I win one fight out of 100 against him? If I connect with a punch, I`d like to think so. Would I fight him for a million pounds? Absolutely I would. I`d take that 1 in 100 chance for a million quid.”
Putting potential earnings aside, Allen revealed that the fight he genuinely desires is an opportunity to challenge Jeamie Tshikeva (8-2, 5 KOs) for the British heavyweight title. This title is expected to become vacant soon, pending the outcome of David Adeleye`s upcoming bout with Filip Hrgovic.
“I`m hoping to fight TKV for the British title,” Allen said. “I believe TKV is a skilled fighter. Many people tell me it would be an easy British title fight, but I disagree. He has significant amateur experience, around 60 to 80 fights, including international competition. He has defeated top fighters in Britain numerous times.”
He continued, “I`ve watched him for a long time, I observe all my British rivals. He is a good fighter, but stylistically, I think he matches up well with me. However, I view this as a considerable step up from Johnny Fisher.”
Allen reiterated that it would be very difficult to decline a fight with Parker “if crazy money is involved.” Nevertheless, it appears “The White Rhino” is inclined to wait and see if the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) vacates Adeleye`s title before making a definitive decision on his next opponent.
The fighter from Yorkshire also indicated that he anticipates returning to the ring in September, regardless of whether his opponent turns out to be Parker, Tshikeva, or another contender in the heavyweight division.
