UFC fighter Daniel Rodriguez has shed light on the events that led to his apprehension in Mexico, stating that the country’s law enforcement is extremely strict.
Rodriguez, who was detained in Mexico City, explained that the situation arose from a misunderstanding involving a vehicle. He elaborated that he and his friends were stopped by police, and despite initially believing it was a routine check, it quickly escalated.
“We got stopped by the police, and we thought it was just like, you know, a routine stop,” Rodriguez said. “And then they started getting aggressive, and they told us we had to get out of the car and go with them. I didn’t understand what was happening at first.”
The fighter stressed that he was not aware of any wrongdoing on his part but understood the severity of the situation once he was taken into custody. “It was a shock,” he admitted. “I’ve never been in trouble with the law before, and I didn’t know what to expect. But I quickly learned that in Mexico, they don’t play any games when it comes to this stuff.”
Rodriguez implied that the legal process in Mexico was straightforward but firm. He emphasized the need for individuals to be respectful and cooperative with authorities, as any resistance or perceived disrespect can lead to serious consequences.
“You have to be very careful and respectful,” Rodriguez advised. “Even if you think you’re in the right, you have to handle it a certain way. They have a system, and it’s not something you want to mess with.”
