Conor McGregor was among the viewers who witnessed Ilia Topuria`s impressive capture of the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 317 this past Saturday.

Following Islam Makhachev`s decision to vacate the 155-pound belt, the UFC announced that Ilia Topuria would face Charles Oliveira for the vacant title at UFC 317.

In the main event on Saturday, Topuria delivered a powerful right hand in the first round, knocking out Oliveira and claiming the lightweight crown.

Immediately after securing the win, Topuria had an unexpected face-off with potential next opponent Paddy Pimblett, who entered the Octagon for an impromptu stare down.

Conor McGregor Reacts to Topuria`s Title Win

With this victory, `El Matador` became the 10th fighter in UFC history to win a title in two different weight classes, joining a distinguished group that includes Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, Georges St-Pierre, and others. The Spaniard is now undoubtedly one of the biggest active stars in the sport.

Just hours after Topuria`s spectacular performance, `The Notorious` McGregor shared his reaction, offering some surprisingly positive remarks.

“Congrats on winning my old titles, Ilia! He said he’s gonna rest his balls on Paddy’s head too, haha fair play,” McGregor stated.

“Good lightweight scrap that one is as well, in my opinion. UFC is back? Or still missing something? Three KOs back to back to back is very good. No one can deny the knockout. I like (the rose).”

McGregor continued, “Unlucky to Charles also. Styles make fights! You are a tremendous and legendary UFC fighter. Rest up.”

McGregor`s Past Comments on Topuria

The former two-division champion`s supportive comments were somewhat unexpected given his history of animosity with the Spanish fighter.

Previously, `The Notorious` had claimed he would `cave Topuria’s head in` when asked for his opinion on `El Matador` during a live stream.

Topuria responded to McGregor`s remarks with a violent threat, warning that he would `F— him up` if their paths ever crossed.

While a fight between them would likely generate massive interest, there are currently no clear indications of McGregor`s return to competition, despite frequent teasing about his comeback.
