Biaggio Ali Walsh entered PFL 7 as the biggest favorite on the fight card by a significant margin but ultimately suffered his first professional defeat.
Muhammad Ali`s grandson was listed as a massive betting favorite, with odds reaching as high as -1600, before stepping into the cage against Ronnie Gibbs. Gibbs, a 31-year-old local competitor participating in only his second professional bout, astonished the MMA community by securing a victory via a second-round arm triangle choke, delivering a significant upset.
In the initial minute of the fight, Ali Walsh knocked Gibbs down with a powerful right hand, although Gibbs recovered effectively. Ali Walsh appeared dominant, hurting his opponent multiple times throughout the opening round, and it seemed likely he would secure a finish soon.
However, Gibbs survived the first round and managed to take Ali Walsh to the ground in the second. Gibbs demonstrated superior control and skill in the grappling exchanges, which ultimately led to his memorable victory.
With this win, Gibbs improves his professional record to 2-0, with both victories coming by stoppage. His professional debut occurred in March, where he also earned a second-round TKO win at a Chicago Cagefighting Championship event.
Ali Walsh will need to re-evaluate his approach after his eight-fight winning streak under the PFL banner came to an end.
