Adam Azim is focused on staying sharp in anticipation of a much-awaited, more substantial fight expected later this year.
It was announced just yesterday that the dynamic super-lightweight contender will be involved in a `keep-busy` contest this Saturday, where he is set to face Mexican competitor Eliot Chavez.
Featuring on the undercard of Callum Simpson vs Ivan Zucco at Oakwell Stadium, the home ground of Barnsley Football Club, Azim, who holds a record of 13-0 with 10 knockouts, is nevertheless determined to deliver a characteristically impressive performance.
After all, he is coming off a stunning showing against former world champion Sergey Lipinets, an opponent he dropped before ending the fight decisively in the ninth round.
The 23-year-old`s skill at fighting on the inside was also clearly demonstrated throughout that one-sided match, revealing another aspect of his already diverse set of boxing skills.
Meanwhile, Azim’s upcoming opponent, Eliot Chavez, is perhaps most notable for his victory over Mauricio Lara – achieved via a first-round stoppage – back in 2020.
However, in addition to his six other professional defeats, Chavez also suffered a ninth-round disqualification loss against Harlem Eubank in 2022.
Regardless of his record, the 30-year-old should, at the very least, offer some rounds of resistance before Azim`s hand is expected to be raised in victory.
Following this upcoming bout, ‘The Assassin’ has indicated that a more meaningful challenge should arrive sooner rather than later, generating excitement among fans who are eagerly awaiting a significant announcement.
If directly questioned, the opponent most British fans would choose for Azim is undoubtedly leading WBC contender Dalton Smith. As it happens, Smith may require an opponent before securing his own world title shot.
“I`m already training intensely for a big fight, so when the chance came up to participate on this card, I didn`t hesitate,” Azim stated in a press release.
“I discussed it with my team and [Boxxer promoter] Ben Shalom, and we concluded it was the appropriate time to get some solid, competitive rounds against a durable opponent.”
